Call for Papers

What kind of papers?

We invite papers (and posters, see below) in formal epistemology, broadly construed. This includes papers in related areas of philosophy (e.g., logic, philosophy of science, philosophy of language), as well as cognate disciplines like statistics, psychology, economics, computer science, and mathematics. Papers should be suitable for 30 minutes presentation time, followed by 10 minutes commentary and 20 minutes of general discussion. These figures may be slightly altered in the final program.

We will prioritize papers of high quality and with innovative elements, but we will also strive for a program that aims at diversity in terms of research topics and presenters (e.g., career stage, being part of underrepresented groups, or geographical origin). Review scores being equal, these criteria may be a tiebreaker. Submissions from PhD candidates and early career researchers are especially welcome.

How do I submit?

Please submit a short abstract (max. 2000 characters, plain text) and a full paper (max. 6000 words, pdf format) through the EasyChair submission system.

The conference language is English; contributions in other languages will not be considered.

Abstract and paper should be prepared for double-blind review and not contain any identifying information.

In case of multiple authors, please indicate in the submission system who is going to present the paper. No conference participant can present more than one paper. Participants selected for presentation may also be asked to act as a commentator on a different paper.

Poster Session

It is also possible to submit a paper for the poster session instead of a talk. If you prefer to present a poster, just submit an extended abstract of ca 1,000 words (pdf format) instead of a paper.

Dates and Deadlines

20 January 2019: Submission Deadline (=last possible day for making submissions)
second half of March 2019: Notification of Acceptance
1 June 2019: Registration Deadline
19-21 June 2019: Workshop

Graduate students and early career researchers with precarious appointment may qualify for free accommodation at a student residence of the University of Turin. This is subject to availability, though. Choices will be made on the basis of need and priority will be given to participants who present or comment on a paper. Please send your request before 1 April 2019 via the registration form on the conference website.

Program Committee

The program committee consists of about 40 experts in formal epistemology and related areas (logic, philosophy of science, semantics, …) from all over the world. It is chaired by three local organizers plus three FEW veterans. The composition of the committee can be seen here.
